THURSDAY, AUGUST 23 AT 7:30 PM
Celebrate the creation of rock ‘n’ roll with Bill Haley Jr. and The Comets along with special guest, The Jerry Spathis Rockabilly Band on August 23 at the Cape May Convention Hall.
Bill Haley Jr. and The Comets is a high-energy six-piece combo performing a rousing, crowd-pleasing set of songs first recorded at the dawn of Rock ‘n’ Roll in the early and mid- 1950s by the legendary Bill Haley and The Comets.
Emphasizing authenticity in sound and presentation, this “Rock ‘N’ Roll History Show” features Bill Haley Jr. sharing the inside stories and historical context behind the songs he sings backed by his talented band of Comets — multi-instrumentalist Bobby Michaels on saxophone, percussion and keyboards; nimble-fingered Mike DeNaro on electric guitar; Christopher Davis Shannon slapping the upright bass; Rich Flamini’s energetic Gene Krupa-style drumming, and veteran Comet Bill Turner on steel guitar. Turner played lead guitar and toured with Bill Haley Sr. in the 1970s.
Be prepared to jump, jive, dance, clap, stomp your feet and sing along as Haley and his Comets Rock the Joint!
Special guest, The Jerry Spathis Rockabilly Band will be opening for Bill Haley Jr., and the Comets. Spathis is describing it as “a rock n’ roll history concert that will connect generations.” This type of music has been Jerry’s passion for several years now, and his performances resonate with young and old alike.
Jerry’s music really connects with audiences and there is nothing he loves more than putting a smile on people’s faces. His infectious and danceable tunes are always a hit with the crowd. As his website describes, “Jerry Spathis, a former restaurant owner, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and raised in Old Bridge, NJ. He has performed to sold out audiences, made numerous radio and television appearances throughout the tri-state area and worked every venue imaginable since he first began singing in his teens.
Spathis combines a high energy show with his wide vocal range and ability to entertain audiences performing songs from the early Rock 'n Roll era. He nails favorite tunes such as: Elvis, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Fats Domino and pays a major tribute to his all-time favorite, Ricky Nelson! Spathis reaches out and crosses generations with the youth of today and the early listeners of rockabilly music (the Young at Heart). He will transport you back in time with his charismatic entertainment and the sharing of snippets of stories that will mesmerize you with the authenticity he brings to the music. Audiences have described Jerry's show as being "Electrifying, Intense and Magical!!"
Spathis surrounds himself with a three piece band as well as a female back-up singer that captures every aspect of the music and entertains all who have the pleasure of experiencing his shows!”
