2005 PRESERVATION AWARDS
ABOUT THE AWARDS
The Cape May HPC is initiating a new Award Program to
recognize outstanding preservation projects.
Nominations may be made in the following categories:
Rehabilitation/Restoration of an Existing
Property: outstanding preservation of
properties, or elements of properties including rehabilitation or restoration
of an historic building
Addition to an Existing Historic Structure: addition that demonstrates quality design
and fits with the existing historic structure
Adaptive Reuse of an Existing Structure (using a
building for a new use): use of a
building for a different purpose than its original use
New Construction – single family home: design and construction that is compatible
within an historic neighborhood
New Construction –multiple dwelling (e.g.,
condominium): design and construction that is compatible to the characteristics
of the neighborhood where it is built
Commercial:
Rehabilitation, restoration, or new construction of a building used for
commercial purposes
REQUIREMENTS FOR NOMINATION
Any property within the city limits of the City of
Cape May is eligible to receive an Historic Preservation Award.
Nominated projects must have been completed since
January 1, 2000.
Nominations may be made by anyone who is a resident of
Cape May and may be made without the knowledge of the property owner.
Self-nominations will also be accepted.
NOMINATION
PROCEDURE
All nominations must be submitted in a pocket-style
folder.
Nominations must be submitted by September 15, 2005.
Nominators and recipients will be notified no later than October 1, 2005.
Awards will be presented in October 2005 during
Victorian Week.
All materials submitted will become the property of
the Cape May Historic Preservation Commission (HPC)
NOMINATION REQUIREMENTS
Each nomination must include the following:
1. A completed nomination form (see attached)
2. A concise description of the nominated project.
Describe the scope of the project – what was done
List any the people involved in the project such an
architect or contractor.
3. Color photographs
showing all aspects of the work; copies of color photographs (e.g., reprints or
Xerox) are acceptable

Illustrating all views
of the completed work
o
Special architectural
features in close up photographs
o
Before and after
photographs, if available
o
Historical photographs,
if available
DEADLINES
Completed submissions must be received by the Cape May
Historic Preservation Commission no later than 5:00 p.m. on September 15, 2005.
