Job Description:

Seasonal Laborer Position working in the Department of Public Works:  performing various duties including, but not limited to, loading, lifting, and moving supplies, furniture, and equipment; digging trenches and doing manual grading; collecting rubbish and other refuse; cutting grass, trimming hedges, watering lawns, flowers, and vegetable beds; loading and unloading trucks; shoveling snow; whitewashing walls; shoveling gravel and sand; mixing cement and mortar; placing forms used in concrete work; performing cold patching; cleaning up underbrush, foliage, vines, and weeds.

You will also perform duties related to learning to operate construction and/or maintenance equipment; learning to operate a pneumatic drill; learning to operate and make minor repairs to street, road, and related public works equipment; raking asphalt mixtures used in paving to proper thickness and grade; distributing asphalt mixtures to eliminate hollows and high spots in the surface under the construction or repair; patching joints and edges of pavement with asphalt cement; tamping and smoothing asphalt pavement; operating and maintaining asphalt heating kettle; cleaning sludge beds; sweeping streets and sidewalks; cleaning sewers; prying and hammering apart sections of wall and roof; loading debris into truck for removal; sorting piles, and cleans salvageable brick, stone, lumber, and metal work; learning to make routine repairs to valves, fittings, pipe sections or other equipment used in the area of assignment; occasionally driving trucks; and learning to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
