Job Description:

JOB TITLE: ROLLER SKATING STAFF

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Available to work Friday nights and weekends during the skate season.
    • Fridays Nights, Saturday and Sunday Day and Nights
  • Must feel comfortable speaking to adults and children.
  • Must be able to attend staff meetings and training programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Able to skate is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Own roller skates or inline skates preferred if necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to skate or walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights.
  • Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing or walking for various lengths of time.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Skate Room Staff
    • Use of cell phones and other handheld devices is prohibited!
    • Persons 16 years of age or older must have Criminal History Background Check and Fingerprinting.
    • Enforce skating safety rules plus Zero Tolerance Policy.
    • Excellent Customer Service - Always display a positive attitude as you are a representative of the City of Cape May Recreation Department.
    • Monitor the skate floor and make sure skate guard is not in need of assistance.
    • Tie Skates/Blades together and put back with correct sizes.
    • Spray Skates/Blades with disinfectant spray.
    • Keep skate room neat and clean.
    • Proper Skate Maintenance - If skates are brought back broken, please attempt to fix them. If not, please let the Supervisor know.
    • Notify Supervisor on radio when a skate/blade is out.
    • Report ALL Incidents & Accidents. Complete Incident Report and submit to City for ALL Incidents & Accidents.
    • Before and After Session Rink Maintenance - Help straighten chairs and clean up floors before and after sessions.
    • If you need to take an emergency break, please call a supervisor on the radio to find someone to fill your position.
  • Skate Guard Staff
    • Use of cell phones and other handheld devices is prohibited.
    • Persons 18 years of age or older must have Criminal History Background Check and Fingerprinting.
    • Enforce skating safety rules plus Zero Tolerance Policy.
    • Always display a positive attitude as you are a representative of the City of Cape May Recreation Department.
    • Monitor the skate floor and surroundings areas for inappropriate behavior.
    • Notify Supervisor on radio when incident takes place.
    • Report ALL Incidents & Accidents. Complete Incident Report and submit to City for ALL Incidents & Accidents.
    • Before and After Session Rink Maintenance - Help straighten chairs and clean up floors before and after sessions.
    • Empty trash and recycling. Sweep, vacuum, and/or mop after sessions.
    • If you need to take an emergency break, please call a supervisor on the radio to find someone to fill your position.

Pay Rate: $15.49 - $20.00 / hour

Minimum Hours: 10-15 Hours Per Week
