Historic Preservation Surveys Beginning 7/21/2021 through 9/30/2021

Residents of the City of Cape May Historic District:

The City of Cape May is in the process of updating the surveys of historic structures of selected sections of the City’s Historic District in accordance with § 525-33 of the Cape May City Code. The purpose of this procedure is to identify, record and maintain a comprehensive survey and inventory of all buildings, sites, places, landmarks and structures of historic or architectural significance to aid the public and Historic Preservation Commission in understanding the worthiness of protection and preservation of structures in the district. The surveys are prepared based on the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and the City’s Historic Preservation Commission Design Standards.

PS&S of Warren, New Jersey has been contracted to conduct 186 surveys in your area, including your property, beginning July 21, 2021 through September 30, 2021. All documentary photographs will be taken from the street and public right-of-way. No access to private yards or homes will be necessary. All employees of PS&S will carry appropriate identification.

Please visit the City’s website, capemaycity.com, and browse the Historic Preservation Commission Design Standards for more information on the classification of structures. You may contact the Historic Preservation Commission Office at (609) 884-9561 should you have any questions regarding the historic survey process.
