The Cape May Harbor provides many important functions. It is the home port of 6 Coast Guard Cutters. It is the location of one of the largest fishing industries on the East Coast and is a major stopover for yachts traveling the Atlantic Coast.  Additionally, the harbor is the staging area for sailboat races and a sailing school run by the Corinthian Yacht Club and is home to thousands of small recreational boats. It has also, unfortunately, become the dumping area for unwanted and unsalable boats left to sink and become an eyesore and a disruption to safe navigation.
In 2022, Cape May City adopted ordinance 481-2022 creating volunteer harbor masters and a required registration process to monitor the use of the harbor. Anyone intending to anchor or moor a boat in the harbor for 30 days or more must submit the registration form below. There is no charge, but there are significant fines for boat owners in violation of 481-2022. The harbor is closed for long term anchorages from November 1st to March 31st.
This form needs to be completed and returned to clerk@capemaycity.com.
