Master Plan Advisory Committee

(Created October 17, 2017 by City Council Resolution 234-10-2017 and continued May 21, 2019 to focus on Master Plan implementation by City Council Resolution 125-05-2019)

Original Purpose:
The Master Plan advisory committee was originally established:

To aid and support the City’s Planning Board by ensuring broad public participation in the Master Plan process;

To revisit previous iterations of the Master Plan for relevance and guidance in considering the parameters of the updated version;

To gather and codify pertinent community questions, suggestions and insights;

To act as a preliminary community sounding board.

Updated Purpose:

Following completion of the Master Plan Reexamination, the Planning Board determined it would be in the City’s best interests to extend the advisory committee:

To move forward with an implementation process for the recommendations in the re-examined Master Plan.

To continue to utilize the acquired wisdom and experience of the advisory committee members in the implementation process.

Selected Original Tasks:

• Explore ways to increase public awareness of and participation in the updated Master Plan;
• Convene and participating in community meetings to review elements of the Master Plan;
• Conduct a community survey of community interests and concerns that might be reflected in the updated Master Plan;
• Periodically report committee findings to the Planning Board;
• Process the committee’s experience and recommend any improvements to the Master Plan schedule.

Selected Updated Tasks

• Develop a standard protocol for the review of all Master Plan recommendations, including time frames, appropriate accountability structures and evaluation criteria;
• Explore ways to increase public awareness and participation in the process of moving recommendations to resolution or action;
• Convene and participate in community meetings designed to bring Master Plan recommendations to resolution or action;
• Prepare regular status reports for the Planning Board, City Manager and City Council;
• Respond to requests for special action or follow-up from City Council or the Planning Board.
