Pet Advisory Committee

(Created August 17, 2017 by City Council Resolution 197-08-2017)

Purpose:
To encourage residents and visitors to be responsible pet owners and caretakers.

To publicize the City’s pet policies including schedules of where and when pets may be walked.

To inform residents and visitors of dog licensing process and fees;

To maintain a user-friendly dog park.

To promote educational programs and materials on responsible dog ownership.
 Selected Tasks:

  • Assist and advise the City Manager and City Council on such matters as:
    • Whether revisions are needed to the existing pet (primarily dog) policy;
    • Public concerns regarding the City’s pet policy;
    • Options to expanding or contracting the dog policy especially on the Mall, the Promenade and the beach.
  • Questions that might be considered include:
    • Allowing dogs on the pedestrian mall;
    • Lengthening the schedule for allowing dogs on the Promenade;
    • Considering the condition, maintenance and usage of the dog park;
    • Promoting dog licensing in the City;
    • Encouraging dog owners or caretakers to clean up after their dogs.
